Risk disclaimer

In short: this is not financial advice. Tactfolio is a research and automation tool. It is not a broker or a financial adviser. This page is for education only. Backtests are hypothetical. They show how rules would have done on past prices, not how they will do. All investing involves risk, including losing the money you put in.
This page is the full version of the short note at the bottom of every Tactfolio page. It applies to the whole site, the app, our emails and our AI assistant tools. Please read it before you use Tactfolio to make decisions about your money.
Tactfolio is not an adviser or a broker#
Tactfolio is software. It is not a registered investment adviser, a broker-dealer, a bank or a fund. Nothing on Tactfolio is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security or to follow any strategy.
We do not know your goals, your income, your taxes or how much risk you can take. So nothing on the site is advice that fits you. Before you invest, think about talking to a licensed financial adviser who knows your situation.
Everything here is for education#
Our guides, strategy articles, ETF pages, comparisons and calculators explain how things work. They are general information. They may not be complete, and they may not fit your case.
Some pages explain products that Tactfolio does not offer, such as options, forex or CFDs. Those pages and their calculators are for learning only. Tactfolio does not trade them.
Backtests are hypothetical#
A backtest shows how a set of rules would have done on past prices. No real money was traded. Hypothetical results have limits that real results do not have:
- They are built with hindsight. Rules are often chosen after looking at the same past prices they are tested on.
- They leave out real-world costs. Our backtests charge a set cost per trade. They do not include taxes, commissions or every fee.
- They assume trades fill at the price shown. Real orders can fill at worse prices, fill in part, or fail.
- They only include survivors. The ticker list holds only stocks and funds that still trade today. Ones that failed are missing.
- They cannot show the future. Markets change. A rule that worked before can stop working.
Past results, real or simulated, do not promise future results. Our methodology lists every assumption our backtests make.
Simulated history is an estimate#
Some backtests reach back before a fund existed by using simulated history. These are modelled values, not real prices. No one could have traded at them. Results that depend on simulated history deserve extra care.
Community strategies are not checked by us#
Members publish strategies in Discover on their own. We do not review, check or approve them. A strategy’s past results are not a promise. The author is not your adviser and does not know your situation.
The Tactfolio Score ranks public strategies by a fixed set of rules. A high score is not a recommendation and not a forecast.
Trading with Tactfolio is your decision#
Tactfolio can run a strategy in a paper account, with pretend money. It can also place real orders in your own Alpaca account, using API keys you give it. If you choose to do this:
- You decide which strategy runs and how much money it uses.
- Your money stays with Alpaca, a separate company. Tactfolio never holds it.
- Alpaca has not approved or endorsed Tactfolio.
- Orders can fail, fill late or fill at a different price. Software, data and connections can break.
- You can lose money, including all the money you give a strategy.
Watch your account and stop a strategy if it does something you do not expect.
Leveraged and inverse funds carry extra risk#
Strategies can hold leveraged and inverse funds. These funds reset daily. Held for longer, their returns can differ a lot from the multiple in their name. Losses can be large and fast.
Crypto perpetual futures carry extra risk#
Strategies can hold perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, a crypto exchange. Crypto prices can move very fast, day and night. Funding fees can add to losses. Today Tactfolio runs these strategies only in backtests and with pretend money on Hyperliquid’s test network.
AI assistants can make mistakes#
You can connect an AI assistant to build and test strategies in your account. The assistant can misread your request, build the wrong rule or explain a result badly. Check what it builds before you rely on it. Tactfolio does not control the assistant you choose.
Data can be wrong or late#
We work to keep prices and economic data correct. Data can still have errors, gaps or delays. A wrong price can change a backtest or a trade. We fix errors when we find them, and results can change after a fix.
Links to other sites#
We link to other websites for sources and context. We do not control them and are not responsible for what they say.
