Why people look for a Portfolio Visualizer alternative#

Portfolio Visualizer’s free plan allows up to 15 assets with limited history. Its paid plans are billed yearly, at $30 or $55 a month. Most of its backtests use monthly returns. Its tactical models are presets, so you can’t write your own rules. And it does not trade. Read the full Tactfolio vs Portfolio Visualizer comparison.

testfolio#

testfol.io is a backtesting and research site with daily data. Its free tiers include the portfolio backtester with full history. A free account adds a tactical backtester, simulated tickers, and factor regression. Paid plans cost $15, $30, or $100 a month, and they add optimizers, Monte Carlo, and more. The $100 Max plan includes an MCP server for AI assistants. It does not trade.

Tactfolio uses a frozen copy of testfol.io’s simulated tickers for part of its simulated history. Read testfol.io alternatives to compare it with other tools.

Tactfolio#

Tactfolio is a platform where you build rules-based investing strategies, backtest them on decades of real prices, share them, and run them automatically in your own Alpaca account. You can build by hand in a visual builder or by asking an AI assistant.

Unlike Portfolio Visualizer, you write your own rules from blocks: if/else conditions, rank, and filters. Backtests use daily prices and charge 0.05% on every trade. Its free tools include a Monte Carlo simulator and a portfolio optimizer, but it has no factor regression. It covers long-only strategies on US-listed stocks and ETFs.

AllocateSmartly#

AllocateSmartly tracks published tactical asset allocation strategies, from authors like Faber, Antonacci, and Keller. You see each strategy’s backtest and current signal, combine strategies, and get email alerts. You can’t build your own strategies, and you place the trades yourself. It costs $49 a month or $399 a year.

Portfolio123#

Portfolio123 is for picking stocks by company data, like earnings and value. You build screens and ranking systems with no code, then backtest them. It covers US, Canadian, and European stocks. Paid plans run from $35 to $278 a month. It can send orders to Interactive Brokers or Tradier.

How to choose#

  • To build your own rules and have them trade, try Tactfolio.
  • To follow well-known tactical strategies by hand, try AllocateSmartly.
