Choose it, test it, let it run

Your money stays in your own brokerage account. Tactfolio never holds it and never takes a cut of your trades.

  1. 1 Choose

    Pick a strategy

Start from one of 63 strategies from books and research papers, a strategy another member shared, or your own idea in plain blocks.

    Browse the strategies →
  2. 2 Test

    See how it held up

Every backtest runs on real daily prices next to simply holding the market. You see its growth, its worst drop and its bad years.

    What a backtest can’t tell you →
  3. 3 Run

    Let it run for you

Plus runs it every market day. Follow up to 25 strategies on paper and get an email of what each one holds and trades, or let one place its trades in your own Alpaca account.

Check our work, not our word

The Tactfolio Research Lab, the team behind Tactfolio, shows its sources, its assumptions and its numbers.

  • 63

classic strategies, each linked to where it was published, with every place our version differs written down.

    Read one →
  • 107

sources cited and linked, so you can read each rule where it came from.

    See an example →
  • Every close

charts and tables are recomputed on prices adjusted for splits and dividends, with a cost on every trade.

    Our methodology →
  • Out of sample

every published strategy marks the day its rules were fixed, so its live record is kept apart from its backtest.

    How it is marked →

Start from a pattern, not a blank page

Four starter patterns are ready to open: trend following, buying dips, momentum rotation, and a fixed mix. Each shows its last ten years next to buying and holding QQQ, including where it fell short.

The builder's start page showing four starter patterns, each with a ten-year growth chart and its max drawdown, Sharpe ratio, and yearly return next to buy-and-hold QQQ.

Rules you can read

A strategy is a tree of plain blocks. Change a number and the backtest reruns.

  • If

    If this, then that

If QQQ is above its 200-day average, hold stocks. Otherwise, hold gold and bonds.

  • Rank

    Rank and pick

Each month, hold whichever of four funds did best over the last three months.

  • Weight

    Mix

Split money equally, by percentages you choose, or so each holding carries a similar amount of risk.

Numbers that don’t flatter

Every backtest shows growth next to a benchmark, the deepest drop along the way, and what the strategy holds today. Trades happen at the day’s close, each one pays a small cost, and no rule sees a later day’s prices.

It still can’t tell you what comes next. Why past results mislead →

  • Daily prices adjusted for splits and dividends
  • Same dates for the strategy and its benchmark
  • Trading costs charged on every trade
  • Every save kept as a revision you can trace

Bring your AI assistant, if you use one

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another assistant that supports MCP. Describe an idea in a sentence. It builds the strategy, runs the backtest, and saves a private strategy you can check in the builder.

You

Hold QQQ while it is above its 50-day average and the VIX is under 25. Otherwise split between IEF and BIL. Backtest it from 2010 and save it.

Your assistant
  • Built the rules as a strategy
  • Ran the backtest from 2010 to today
  • Saved it privately in your builder
