What is the difference between SCHD and VYM?#

Both aim at dividend-paying US stocks but use different rules. SCHD tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index, which screens for at least 10 years of dividends and ranks companies on cash flow, debt, return on equity, dividend yield and dividend growth. VYM tracks the FTSE High Dividend Yield Index, which picks US stocks with higher than average expected dividend yields and leaves out real estate trusts. Fewer holdings make SCHD less spread out.
